Rundle Forebay Repairs Complete, Water Use Back to Normal
You Can Stop Feeling Guilty About Your Sprinkler Now
What’s Happening? Just in case you were planning to spend the weekend watering your lawn for two hours straight, you can go ahead now. The Town of Canmore officially ended its Stage 1 water restriction after TransAlta wrapped up repairs on the Spray Canal, which feeds the Rundle Forebay.
The Backstory. The restriction kicked in mid-July to protect Canmore’s drinking water and firefighting supply while the Forebay’s water levels were lowered for maintenance. During that time, sprinklers were limited to one day a week and filling ponds or fountains was off-limits.

What’s Allowed Now. Everything. Sprinklers, car washes, hot tubs, you name it. (Not that anyone’s rushing to hose down their garden after last week’s 15cm snow dump.)
An Important Reminder. The restriction also reminded everyone how vital and misunderstood the Rundle Forebay is. It’s not just a pretty paddleboarding spot; it’s the town’s main drinking water reservoir. Over the summer, the Town and TransAlta urged people to avoid swimming or paddling there until canal work was complete to prevent contamination.
