Minor Demolition Work Planned Across Banff, Yoho and Kootenay Parks
Aging sheds and shelters will be removed at select day use areas and campgrounds through March

What’s happening? Minor demolition work is scheduled across Banff National Park, Yoho National Park, and Kootenay National Park this February and March, as Parks Canada removes small structures that have reached the end of their service life.
What’s being removed? This is not a major redevelopment. The work focuses on aging sheds and shelters that are no longer usable. Sites include a mix of day use areas and campgrounds:
Banff: Bow Lake Day Use Area, Mosquito Creek Campground, Waterfowl Lakes Campground
Yoho: Sherbrooke Lake Day Use Area
Kootenay: Vermilion Crossing, Kootenay Crossing
What visitors should expect. Some snow clearing will be required so contractors can access sites. Parks Canada says it will try to keep impacts low during the winter season, and at this point, no closures are planned.
That said, closures are not completely off the table. If conditions change or safety becomes an issue, access restrictions could be added as work progresses.
Safety and access notes:
Existing seasonal closures at these locations still apply
Visitors are asked to respect signage, barricades, and worksite boundaries
Heavy equipment will be present, so keeping distance matters
Timeline. All demolition work is expected to wrap up by March 31, 2026.
