VIDEO: Car Flips Into River Near Field, BC, Occupants Flee
What’s Happening? A dash cam video posted on October 15 to the “Bad Calgary Drivers” Facebook group is making the rounds this week, showing a truck veering off Highway 1 and into the river about 2 km east of Field, BC.
The Scene. According to the post, the driver had been swerving across lanes for several kilometres before losing control and coming to a full stop in the water. The witness who shared the footage said he rushed out to help while his wife called 911.
The Twist. Both occupants of the vehicle reportedly escaped with only minor injuries. But instead of waiting for first responders, the two passengers allegedly jumped into another truck driven by friends and sped off westbound toward Field.
What We Know So Far. No official details have been released yet. We have reached out to the Field RCMP detachment to confirm whether officers responded to the incident, if any charges have been issued, and whether alcohol or impairment was suspected.
The Bigger Picture. Leaving the scene of a crash is an offense under British Columbia’s Motor Vehicle Act and can lead to fines up to $2,000, licence suspension, or even jail time. If the incident involves injury or serious damage, drivers may also face criminal charges under the Criminal Code. For now, the truck’s unscheduled swim remains under investigation.
We will update this article if the Field RCMP provides additional information.
