Canmore Man Found Dead On Trans Canada Highway, RCMP Seeking Information From Public
Investigators request overnight dashcam footage from westbound Highway 1 through Canmore after 24-year-old resident found dead early Monday morning

RCMP are investigating a fatal collision after a 24-year-old Canmore man was found dead on the Trans-Canada Highway early Monday morning.
Canmore RCMP said officers were called at 12:23 a.m. on May 11 after a motorist travelling westbound on Highway 1 through Canmore, between exits 89 and 86, reported a body on the highway.
Police said officers attended the scene and located a deceased man. An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Calgary identified the victim as a 24-year-old Canmore resident.
RCMP Public Information Officer Cpl. Gina Slaney said investigators do not yet know how long the man had been on the highway before he was discovered, and could not say whether he had been walking on the roadway or shoulder prior to the collision, although they did confirm no other vehicle was involved.
RCMP indicated investigators believe the man may have been struck by a larger vehicle whose driver may not have realized a collision had occurred, although the circumstances remain under investigation.
“Nobody stopped, and there’s no indication that it’s a criminal hit and run,” Slaney said.
Police are asking anyone who travelled that section of Highway 1 between 11 p.m. on May 10 and 1 a.m. on May 11 and may have dashcam footage or information to contact Canmore RCMP at 403-678-5519.
