Banff Welcome Sign in Storage Ahead of Move to Train Station

Old site for the Banff welcome sign on Mt Norquay Road
The iconic Banff sign was removed on October 23, 2025, from its longtime home on Norquay Road and is now in storage as crews prepare its new site beside the Banff Train Station. The relocation aims to improve safety and ease congestion after years of visitors stopping dangerously along the roadside for photos.
New Home Coming Soon

The sign will be reinstalled in late November on a small hill near the Train Station’s public parking lot, just in time for the Banff Christmas Market. The new space will include a small parkette with benches, trails, and landscaping to create a safer, more scenic backdrop for photos.
Funded by Norquay Owners

The relocation project is being paid for by Adam and Jan Waterous, owners of Mt. Norquay Ski & Sightseeing Resort and leaseholders of the Banff Railway Lands. The move supports their vision for the area’s future Eco Transit Hub and encourages visitors to park near the Train Station instead of downtown. As Mayor Corrie DiManno said earlier this year, the relocation “offers a vibrant gathering place and a great photo opportunity for visitors.”
