Banff Scores Two Spots on Canada’s Top 100 Restaurants

OpenTable, one of the country’s largest restaurant booking platforms, just released its 2025 Top 100 Restaurants in Canada. Banff earned two spots with local favourites Lupo Italian Ristorante and The Bison. The list is built not by critics but by diners, and because OpenTable handles huge reservation volumes across the country, they have an enormous amount of data to work with.

To build the list, OpenTable pulled from more than one million verified diner reviews and booking metrics collected between September 2024 and August 2025. Restaurants had to meet a minimum number of reviews before being evaluated through a mix of data points that included overall diner ratings, percentage of five-star reviews, how often diners set alerts, how far in advance people book, direct search volume, and how consistently a restaurant fills its tables. Each factor was weighted to generate a final score.

Both Lupo and The Bison are part of the Banff Hospitality Collective, the largest restaurant group in Banff. If you are not familiar with BHC, they operate more than fifteen restaurants and bars across town, offering everything from pizza to Italian to Japanese to steak. They also run well known spots like Park Distillery, Bluebird, Chuck’s Steakhouse, and Hello Sunshine. Their influence on Banff’s dining scene is significant, and seeing two of their restaurants land in the Top 100 reinforces the group’s track record.

Across Alberta, nineteen restaurants made the list. Jasper’s The Raven Bistro was included, along with fourteen Calgary restaurants. Bridgette Bar’s Calgary location made the Top 100, although the Canmore location did not. In fact, no Canmore restaurants appeared on the national list this year.

Even so, Banff’s results stand out. Lupo and The Bison are already two of the most popular dining rooms in the Bow Valley, especially during ski season. Making it onto a list created from diner demand and satisfaction, rather than critic opinions, says something important. People choose these restaurants, they return to them, and they leave happy.
