A Raven Absolutely Shredded a Banff Resident’s Amazon Package

She came home to find her delivery turned into a pile of cardboard confetti.

When Banff residents warn visitors to secure their snacks, they usually mean from elk, coyotes, or the occasional opportunistic bear, not a raven with a taste for cardboard. But that is exactly what happened in Valley View this week, where local realtor Brittney Huerlimann came home to find her Amazon package transformed into what can only be described as porch pirate confetti.

What Happened?

Around 3pm, a raven (or as Brittney described it, “a giant black bird lol”) landed on her doorstep and went to town on a large Amazon box. The result: shredded flaps everywhere, packing paper tossed like streamers, and a box so thoroughly destroyed it looked like someone was trying to tunnel out of it.

Inside? A carpet cleaner, somehow completely untouched.

“Even the elk and coyotes leave my Amazon alone,” she told us. “Never had this happen before.” The raven, however, seems unusually invested in its new hobby. “The bird was back today too watching my house.”

Ring Audio Adds to the Drama

While the camera did not capture the raven in the act, the audio did. You can clearly hear a flurry of flapping, thumping, and cardboard carnage, followed by someone off camera yelling “get outta here!”

Why Did It Happen?

Parks Canada has not weighed in yet, but ravens are famously clever and opportunistic. Whether it thought there was food inside or it simply enjoys recreational destruction is still a mystery.

Brittney’s advice:

“If you are ordering from Amazon today, maybe track your package… because the birds are apparently running a porch pirate operation now. Mine did not survive the attack.
Amazon package + bird = confetti.”
