Alcohol, Cannabis Banned at Banff Campgrounds on Three Long Weekends in 2026

Applies to major sites like Tunnel Mountain and Two Jack, with fines up to $25,000 and possible eviction for violations

Banff National Park is banning alcohol and cannabis at several campgrounds during three summer long weekends, according to a new Parks Canada bulletin.

The restriction applies to the Victoria Day (May 15–18), Heritage/BC Day (July 31–Aug. 3), and Labour Day (Sept. 4–7) weekends.

The ban runs from 7 a.m. on the Friday to 11 a.m. on the Monday of each long weekend.

Affected campgrounds include Tunnel Mountain (all sites), Two Jack, Lake Louise (all sites), Johnston Canyon, Castle Mountain, and several others along the Icefields Parkway (see full list here).

Parks Canada says both possession and consumption of alcohol and cannabis are prohibited during those periods.

Violations can lead to permit cancellation, eviction, fines up to $25,000, and no refund on camping fees.
